Nikolaus Otto |
Nikolaus August Otto (June 14, 1832 - 28 January 1891) is the inventor of the internal combustion engine of German origin. As a young man he began experimenting with gas engines and in 1864 took part with two friends to form his own company. The company was named after N. A. Otto & Cie., Which is the first company to produce internal combustion engines. The company still exists today under the name Deutz AG.
His first atmospheric engine was completed in May 1867. 5 years later he was followed by Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach and together they created the idea of four-stroke cycle or Otto cycle.
First made in 1876, it was a movement up or down on the piston cylinder. Otto made a patent does not apply in 1886 when it was discovered that another inventor, Alphonse Beau de Rochas, has made the principle of rotation 4 was published in a leaflet alone.
