Gerd "Der Bomber" Müller (born in Nordlingen, Germany, 3 November 1945; age 66 years) is a former West German football player. With a national record of 68 goals in 62 international appearances and 365 goals in 427 appearances in the Bundesliga, he was one of the most successful players of his time.
Club career
His career began in 1960 at TSV 1961 Nordlingen. In 1964 he joined FC Bayern München where he was a club with Franz Beckenbauer and Sepp Maier who would later become famous. When it was still in the Regionalliga München Süd, which is one level below the main level of competition (Bundesliga). One season later München promotion to the Bundesliga and started a long series of successes. With Munich, Müller won the Bundesliga four times, the German Cup four times, three times Champions Cup, Intercontinental Cup once, and the Cup Winners Cup once. An opportunistic goal scorer, he is also seven times the leading scorer in Germany and two in Europe.
From Munich he then moved to the United States, strengthening the Fort Lauderdale Strikers for three seasons, where he once managed to bring the team to the league final, although not managed to become champion.
National team
He was summoned to the national team in 1966. Important moments in the national team during his career including scoring the winning goal in the 1974 World Cup final when East Germany against the Netherlands (this is also the final game) and leading scorer at Euro 1972. Four goals in the 1974 World Cup and 10 goals in 1970 making it the leading scorer in the history of the World Cup until the record was broken at the 2006 World Cup by Ronaldo.
After retiring in 1982, Müller alcohol addiction, but former colleagues at Bayern Munich persuaded him to go through rehabilitation. Once out of rehab, Müller is given a job as coach at Bayern Munich amateurs. By 2006 he was still working there.
