Raymond Griffith - actor, comedian

Raymond Griffith was one of the grand silent movie comedians. He lost his voice at an early age, causing him to speak for relax of his life in a hoarse whisper. He claimed that it was the effect of his having to scream at the top of his lungs each night in a stage melodrama as a child actor others have stated that a childhood sickness was more likely the cause. Although some comedy films of his are considered classics he is almost completely forgotten today. His film debut was for the L-KO Kompany. Many of his starring feature films have extended since been lost, but probably the best recognized of his films today is Hands Up!.

A 1926 Civil War comedy feature directed by Clarence G. Badger, and co-starring Mack Swain, which was goes into the National Film Registry in 2005. Also measured a classic is Badger's Paths to Paradise, a caper film that is in all circulating prints missing its final reel. Like several silent comedians, he had a traditional dress; his was a top hat, white tie and tails, often augmented by a cape and walking stick. The coming of sound finished Griffith's acting career, but he did have one excellent role in a motion picture before retiring from the screen, playing a French soldier killed by Lew Ayres in the 1930 Lewis Milestone film All Quiet on the Western Front. He then segued into a producing and writing career at Twentieth Century Fox.

William Clark Gable known as Clark Gable, was an American film actor most celebrated for his role as Rhett Butler in the 1939 Civil War epic film Gone with the Wind, in which he starred by Vivien Leigh. His performance earned him his third suggestion for the Academy Award for Best Actor; he won for It Happened One Night (1934) and was also nominated for Mutiny on the Bounty (1935). Later movies integrated Run Silent, Run Deep, a submarine war film, and his final film, The Misfits (1961), which paired Gable with Marilyn Monroe, also in her final screen appearance. In 1999, the American Film organization named Gable seventh among the best male stars of all time. He was nick-named 'The King of Hollywood.'

Joan Crawford, who was his favorite actress to work with, was joined with Gable in eight films, Myrna Loy worked with him seven times, and he was paired with Jean Harlow in six productions. He also starred with Lana Turner in four features and with Norma Shearer and Ava Gardner in three every. In the mid-1930s, Gable was often name the top male movie star, and second just to the top box-office draw of all, Shirley Temple.

Thanksgiving is a holiday famous in the United States on thefourth Thursday in November. It has publicly been an annual tradition since1863, when during the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln proclaimed a national day of thanksgiving to be celebrated on Thursday, Nov 26. Jesse James - American outlaw, gang leader, robber, murderer

Jesse James was an American outlaw, gang leader, bank robber, train robber, and murderer from the state of Missouri and the mainly famous member of the James Younger Gang. Already a famous person when he was alive, he became a famous figure of the Wild West after his death. Some new scholars place him in the context of regional insurgencies of ex-Confederates following the American Civil War rather than an expression of frontier lawlessness or economic justice. Jesse and his brother Frank James were partner guerrillas during the Civil War. They were accused of join in atrocities committed against Union soldiers.

After the war, as associate of one gang or another, they robbed banks, stagecoaches, and trains. Despite popular portrayals of James as a kind of Robin Hood, robbing from the wealthy and giving to the poor, there is no proof that he and his gang used their robbery gains for anyone but themselves. The James brothers were most active with their gang from about 1866 until 1876, when their effort robbery of a bank in Northfield, Minnesota, resulted in the imprison or deaths of several members. On April 3, 1882, Jesse James was killed by Robert Ford, who was an associate of the gang living in the James house and who was hopeful to collect a state reward on James' head.

John Tyler was the tenth President of the United States and the first to succeed to the office next the death of a predecessor. Arguably the most famous and important achievement of Tyler's administration was the capture of the Republic of Texas in 1845. Abraham Lincoln

Abraham Lincoln served as the 16th President of the United States from March 1861 until his murder in April 1865. He successfully led his country through its most internal crisis, the American Civil War, preserving the Union and ending slavery. Before his election in 1860 as the first Republican president, Lincoln had been a country lawyer, an Illinois state legislator, a member of the United States House of Representatives, and twice an unsuccessful applicant for election to the U.S. Senate.

As an outspoken opponent of the growth of slavery in the United States, Lincoln won the Republican Party nomination in 1860 and was elected president later that year. His tenure in office was engaged primarily with the defeat of the secessionist Confederate States of America in the American Civil War. He introduced measures that resulted in the removal of slavery, issuing his Emancipation Proclamation in 1863 and promoting the passage of the Thirteenth Amendment to the Constitution.

Six days after the large-scale surrender of partner forces under General Robert E. Lee, Lincoln became the first American president to be assassinated. Lincoln had closely supervised the winning war effort, especially the selection of top generals, including Ulysses S. Grant. Historians have concluded that he handled the factions of the Republican Party well, bringing leaders of each faction into his cabinet and forcing them to assist.
