Al-Wathiqu Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Billah Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Mahmud Al-Muktafi Billah Shah (born in Kuala Terengganu, January 22, 1962, age 50 years) was the 16th Sultan of Terengganu as well as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (the King of Malaysia) to -13, reigned from December 13, 2006. He was married to Queen Nur Zahirah and father of four children. On 26 April 2007, he ditabalkan as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to-13 in full traditional ceremony at the Istana Raja Malay States, Kuala Lumpur. Tuanku Mizan Al-Qur'an kissed gold and gold dagger touched to his forehead as a symbol of power. He then stated pledge to govern with justice, abide by laws, and maintain the religion of Islam.

Education and career

He received a common education in Terengganu before later moving to Australia to continue their education in secondary schools Geelong Grammar School. In the mid-1980s, he was educated in the UK military. In 1988, he graduated from the U.S. International University-Europe in London with a Bachelor of Arts degree in foreign relations. After that he had worked at the Economic Affairs Unit Designer (UPEN) and Kuala Terengganu District Land Office.


Sultan

In 1979, he was appointed Crown Prince of Terengganu. For two weeks in 1990, he had become the official Sultan Terengganu. On May 15, 1998, he became the Sultan of Terengganu. From April 1999 until elected as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, he also was Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong. He was elected as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in November 2006 and took office on December 13, 2006. Of office will expire on December 13, 2011. He will be replaced by the Sultan Abdul Halim Shah Mu'adzan who was also the Yang di-Pertuan Agong fifth period 1970-1975.
