Nelson Mandela Biography
Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela (born in Mvezo, July 18, 1918, age 93 years) is known worldwide as a freedom fighter through the activities of anti-apartheid and then became President of South Africa. His childhood was spent in Thembu then started a career in law. He also had the honor of his clan name Madiba is.
Life
Born in Mvezo, Transkei on July 18, 1918, Rolihlahla Mendela then moved to Qunu until the age of 9 years. He was the first of his family to attend school. He also received the name of Nelson from his teacher who was a Methodist. At the age of 16, he entered Clarkebury Boarding Institute study western culture.
In 1934, he started a program B.A. at Fort Hare University, where he met Oliver Tambo who became a loyal friend and colleague. Having opposed the policy of the university and asked to leave. He moved to Johannesburg and continued his studies at the University of South Africa after taking the law at the University of the Witswatersrand.
Marriage
Mandela's first marriage to Evelyn Ntoko Mase ended in divorce in 1957 after 13 years. Winnie Madikizela marriage to a 38-year run ended in divorce in 1996. On the 80th birthday, Mandela married Graca Machel, widow of former Mozambique President Samora Machel, who is also an ANC comrade.

Political
Because of the antiapartheid activities, he underwent a variety of sentence. On August 5, 1962, Mandela was arrested and later imprisoned in the Johannesburg Fort on October 25, 1962, he was sentenced to five years in prison and on June 12, 1964, he and a group of other activists were sentenced to life imprisonment.
After refusing parole to stop the armed struggle in February 1985, Mandela remained in prison until released on February 11, 1990 by order of President Frederik Willem de Klerk after pressed by the whole world.
President
Nelson Mandela President of South Africa in the period of about five years (May 1994 - June 1999) after winning the election and became the first black president with de Klerk as Deputy President.
AIDS issues become a source of disappointment and regret those Mandela because in his reign, he pays little attention to this issue. His son, Makgatho Mandela, died of AIDS on January 6, 2005.
