Iker Casillas Fernandez is a Spanish international goalkeeper who plays for Spanish giants Real Madrid and Europe throughout his life. He is arguably the best guardian of the world and also the captain of the Spanish national team. He is known as Ikerman.

Iker Casillas is a product which is the value of Real Madrid's youth academy and began playing for junior side in the 1990-1991 season. Casillas step up to senior levels in the 1998-1999 season, but from next season and beyond Iker Casillas is firmly cemented to the Real Madrid starting line-up.

Casillas played for Real Madrid in a 3-0 defeat of Valencia in the 2000 UEFA Champions League final, thereby becoming the youngest goalkeeper ever to play in the Champions League final in just 19 years old.

But he lost his place to Cesar Sanchez in the 2001-2002 season but showed his class and quality in the Champions League final against Bayer Leverkusen that year at Hampden Park when he came onto the field at the last minute and make a string of superb saves.

Casillas then went on to win La Liga in 2003, a feat which he achieved in 2001. He has since retain his place and has now developed into the fulcrum of the side Real Madrid. Casillas football commentators say that alone is worth 20-25 goals a season since he made a string of saves in every game that he plays for Real Madrid.

Iker Casillas has been the national Spanish since his teenage years. He was the third choice keeper for Spain at Euro 2000 but he was the first choice in the 2002 World Cup and at Euro 2004 and World Cup 2006.
