Sonia Gandhi (born in Lusiana, Italy, December 9, 1946, age 65 years), or his real name Antonia Albina Maino Edvige, is Italian-born Indian politician, President of the First Congress, and the widow of former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. As the United Progressive Alliance Chairperson in the Lok Sabha, he resigned on March 23, 2006. His name is included in the top three rankings as a politician in the world's most powerful woman by Forbes magazine in 2004.

However, that ranking has fallen sharply, by 2005, that no longer Forbes ranked her in the top 100 most powerful women. She was returned to Parliament by a margin of over 400.000 votes in the recently held by-election for Rae Bareilly. According to a poll conducted by The Hindu newspaper with CNN-IBN, he is the most popular politician in 2006. Sonia declined the post of prime minister, though his party won elections in 2004. As many as 28 percent of respondents considered most appropriate Sonia held the post of prime minister, while Prime Minister Manmohan Singh gained 12 percent.

Being, the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee being displaced from his post in elections 2004 India ranked second with 18.5 percent. Sonia Gandhi declined the post of PM after the emergence of the opposition Hindu nationalist who considered himself not a native Indian descent. His decision was actually invited the sympathy of the people of India.
