Enrico Roberto De Nicola (Naples, November 9, 1877 - Torre del Greco, October 1, 1959) is a lawyer, journalist, politician, and the Head of State (Head of State) while the first for the birth of a new republic in 1946-1948.



Biography

Enrico de Nicola was born in Naples and became famous as one of the most respected criminal lawyers in Italy. He was elected as a deputy for the first time in 1909 and fills a small political office until the emergence of fascism, when he retired from political life. He was appointed senator by King Victor Emmanuel III in 1926, but never took part in the work of parliament.


After 1943, when fascist regime ended, De Nicola may be the most influential mediator for the creation of the title "General Letnal Kingdom," which the king's son, Prince Umberto took over most of the functions of the King. After the monarchy ended, the Constituent Assembly chose De Nicola as Head of State while on the date of June 28, 1946 with 80% of the votes in the first round. Giulio Andreotti then remembered that De Nicola, mainly because of the unique kesantunannya, not sure whether to accept the nomination and frequently changed his mind in the face pendesakan by all the leaders of major political parties. On June 25, 1947, De Nicola resigned, citing health reasons. After the Italian Constitution came into force, he was officially named as "President of the Republic of Italy" on January 1, 1948. He finally refused to kanditat in the first constitutional elections in May which Luigi Einaudi elected president.


De Nicola became senator for life, a position given to the former Head of State, and was subsequently elected President of the Senate and jugab by the Constitutional Court.
He died at Torre del Greco, Naples province in 1969.
