Character of power evident in East Pakistan during the 1970's life until the end of Bangladesh Liberation Conflict.

He fought for Britain during World War II and was a major force in the Pakistan army after independence of Pakistan and India. He was appointed as Supreme Commander of the Army a year after the 1965 war with India. After the civil unrest in the country in 1969 he was given power by the president, and he declared a state of war and recognize him as Chairman of the State Administrator of War and later President of Pakistan.

In nature it is similar to Mobutu Sese Seko of Zaire (Congo). At first he chose to hand over power to civilian rule, set the levels for the elections in 1970 and this is where the problem starts. The results of the election showed voters split between East and West Pakistan. In the absence of two leaders of each party (Mujibur Rahman and Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto) wishes to accept the other as the Prime Minister of Pakistan. Light as a result of violence pushed Khan to send tanks into East Pakistan. India came to help and this sparked another war resulting suffering embarrassing to Pakistan, and finally there was the declaration of independence of East Pakistan, soon renamed Bangladesh. Khan approvals fell and he was forced to hand over power to Bhutto in December 1971. He was placed under house arrest in 1972
