Carl Lewis is a American track and field athlete who won 10 Olympic medals including 9 gold, and 10 World Championships medals, of which 8 were gold. His profession spanned from 1979 when he first reached a world ranking to 1996 when he last won an Olympic title and subsequently retired. Lewis became an actor and has show in a number of films. In 2011 Lewis publicized a run as a Democratic candidate for a seat in the New Jersey Senate, but was disqualified by state officials who said he failed to meet the state's rights requirement. A federal appeals court in Philadelphia ruled Thursday, May 5th, 2011, that Lewis can be on the ballot for the future New Jersey primary.
