Julia Child was an American chef, television celebrity and author. She is known for introducing French cuisine to the American public with her entrance cookbook, Mastering the Art of French Cooking, and her succeeding television programs, the most famous of which was The French Chef, which premiered in 1963. Child joined the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) after result that she was too tall to join in the Women's Army Corps (WACs) or in the U.S. Navy through the WAVES. Rachel Louise Carson was an American marine biologist and nature writer whose writings are attributed with advancing the global environmental movement.
